Facebook Opt-in and Opt-out Triggers

Facebook requires all messages sent to a contact 24 hours after their last message to be associated with an Opt-In. You can now ask contacts to opt in to receive messages about a certain topic and send them messages at any time until they decide to opt-out.

In the example below, we'll ask the contacts if they want to receive messages about climate change.

The first step is to create a flow to send them the 'opt-in' request.

Click 'New flow' from the flows tab, name the flow, and set a keyword trigger to start it.

Build the flow, starting with the action Send an opt-in request.

Create an opt-in request by typing it in the search bar, or if there is an existing one, we should see it in the drop-down. Click 'Ok'.

Opt-in trigger

The next step is to create a trigger for those who opted in.

Build a flow.
In the flow, we will add contacts to group called "Optins" and remove them from the "Optouts" group. We can also add any message/action we want the contact to see after they opt in.

From the Triggers tab, click 'New trigger' and scroll to find Start a flow when a contact accepts an opt-in request

Click on it and select the flow to be triggered.

Opt-out trigger

Lastly, we are going to set a trigger for contacts who chose to opt out of our messages.

Build a new flow
In this flow we will remove contacts from the "Optins" group and add them to the "Optouts" group. We can also add any message/action we want the contact to see after they opt-out.

From the Triggers tab, click 'New trigger' and scroll to find Start a flow when a contact opts out of a topic they previously opted in to and select this flow you just created to be triggered.

We're all set! When a contact sends the keyword trigger, they will start in a flow sending them the request. They will then receive a link to opt in.

Once they click on that, they will also receive opt out information.

From the contact's page, we can see how the request was handled by the contact, if they chose to opt in or out of that topic.
