A Telegram channel gives you access to Telegram, a fast and free messaging platform used by over 500 million people around the world on any mobile device. Telegram is a cloud-based instant messaging service - similar to WhatsApp and WeChat - with a focus on speed, openness, and security. It's open source and encrypted end-to-end, meaning that data sent and received via Telegram can't be deciphered if it's intercepted by your ISP, network administrator, or other third parties.

Why Telegram?

There are five key factors that make Telegram our first choice for cloud-based messaging:

1. Unlike most cloud-based chat applications, Telegram provides an open API that encourages integration and development.

2. Telegram's values of openness and security are in line with our own, which allows us to provide an encrypted channel for organizations that communicate sensitive information.

3. It's completely free.

4. Telegram lets you send up to 30 messages per second at no cost - the same throughput a short code would allow - and up to 1,000 per second at a low cost. No warm-up period is required, and there are no minimum volume or rating thresholds to meet before you start sending.

5. Telegram provides a web app, a desktop version for Mac, PC, and Linux, and mobile apps for all iOS and Android devices. It can be used anywhere an internet connection is available.

How Does It Work?

Your Telegram channel is represented by a bot. Telegram bots are special accounts that serve as an interface for the flows and messages you send through our platform. Bots differ from standard accounts in that they:

• Have no online status and no last seen timestamps; the interface shows the label "bot" instead.

• Are given usernames that always end in "bot" (e.g. @TriviaBot, @GitHub_bot).

• Act as a simple interface for Telegram's API.

Much like TextIt, Telegram bots let you create custom tools that provide alerts, weather forecasts, translations, or other services on request, e.g. Poll bot.

Bulk Messaging

Telegram doesn't currently provide a way to send bulk messages or notifications. A bot that isn't connected to our platform can't start conversations with new contacts: a new contact must first add the bot to a group or send it a message (they can find your bot through telegram.me/<bot_username> links or username search). When a bot is connected to your account, however, your Telegram contacts become contacts in our platform, so you can use broadcasts to start conversations and send bulk notifications.
